A nest is built once, used, and abandoned—an intricate structure a creature pours everything into and then walks away from. I collect and photograph them: birds' nests, shells, hornet nests, hives, made of clay and dirt and spit and whatever was nearby. Up close they're architecture. Left behind, they're the clearest thing we have of life that was here and isn't anymore.
