Toronto Photographer & Director FAQ
I am a Toronto-based photographer and director working across portraiture, industry, headshots and commercial photo and video. I work with actors, individuals, small and large teams, and companies to create images for their brand, personal websites, social media, and commercial use. This page outlines how I work with clients from first conversation through final delivery. To help answer any questions you may have.
This process works well for individuals needing headshots, actors updating their portfolios, and companies looking for photography or video for websites, social media, or internal use.
For more details on any of these questions, you can read my blog here.
Do you shoot headshots for actors or business professionals?
Yes. I do not advertise headshots exclusively on my feed and tend to post them more selectively so my work does not appear driven by headshots. That said, I shoot a lot of actor and business headshots in Toronto and really enjoy them. It is also very common to combine headshots with other types of portraits or brand imagery during the same shoot.
Do you shoot product photography as well?
Yes. Let me know what you need and I can share references. If at any point it feels like I am not the right fit for a specific product style, I am happy to bring in another artist to work alongside us so the product imagery aligns properly with your brand portraits.
Where are you located?
I have a studio in Toronto’s east end at 400 Eastern Ave.
Can you come to me?
Yes. I am always open to traveling. I charge a travel fee, but in many cases it makes more sense for me to shoot on location, especially for teams or environments that are important to the story. I can set up on site and capture everything needed.
Do you travel outside Ontario for shoots?
Absolutely. While I’m based in Toronto, I frequently travel for lifestyle and commercial projects. If your vision takes us elsewhere, let’s talk about the logistics and make it happen.
How far in advance should I book you?
To ensure I can give your project the full creative attention it deserves, I typically recommend reaching out 2–4 weeks in advance. However, if you have a last-minute project, feel free to check in, if I can make the timing work, I’d love to help.
How do you work with clients from first call to final delivery?
Once you reach out, I will send over a brief questionnaire or ask a few targeted questions. This helps me understand the overall vibe, the goals of the shoot, and the specific deliverables you need. From there, I shape a plan so everything is clear before the shoot.
How do I prepare for a headshot or brand shoot without overthinking it?
Once you reach out, I will walk you through anything specific we need for the shoot. A simple way to get started is to pull a few reference images or create a Pinterest board that reflects what you are envisioning.
What is the shoot day like?
This is the fun part. I handle the technical side and provide direction to make sure we are capturing everything we discussed. I am easygoing and bring a lot of experience to set. My goal is to create a comfortable and professional environment where the shoot feels stress free and easy. I like to check in and share images as we shoot so we can make sure we are capturing exactly what you are looking for.
Do you work with makeup artists or stylists?
Yes. This is completely up to you. I often work with a trusted team of makeup artists and stylists who consistently go above and beyond and provide an invaluable service. Every shoot is different, and you can decide together whether it makes sense to include them in your project.
How does pricing work?
Once I receive the details of your project, I will provide a quote based on what you request. The quote includes a full breakdown of everything needed along with pricing. From there, we can review the details together.
Do you provide a quote?
Yes. Using your project details, I put together a clear breakdown of how the shoot will be executed and what it will cost. The goal is clarity and alignment before moving forward.
If I only need a quick headshot or social media images or video, do I still request a quote?
For smaller projects, you can send me a message and I will share a link with pricing for those types of shoots.
Who owns the rights to the images?
For most standard shoots, I provide a built in licensing for personal or business branding use. If you’re looking for a full copyright buyout or specific commercial licensing for third-party use, just let me know and I can include that in your quote.
Are images for personal use priced the same as images used for advertising (online ads, print ads, etc.)?
Advertising imagery includes licensing fees based on how long the images will be used. Licensing can be renewed after that period. Personal images for your own brand or social use include a built-in licensing so you do not need to worry about licensing expiring.
Do you provide retouching or can I do my own retouching?
Either option works. After the shoot, you will receive access to all of the images we captured. These images are not fully retouched, but they are professionally adjusted and read as finished images through lighting and technique.
Additional retouching is available to refine skin, color tones, and remove unwanted elements. Together we can curate the strongest images from the session. Once final images are ready, I will send a private link where you can download high resolution files and start using them immediately.
Can I see/have the unedited 'raw' files?
I'm happy to share them upon request! Just keep in mind that the professional color-grading and 'look' we create during the session are metadata-based—those specific edits are often lost when the files are moved outside of my specialized workspace, so the files may look flat compared to what you see on my screen.
What happens after the shoot?
While we are shooting, I will actively display and share images with you so we can review them together in real time.
After the shoot, usually within a few days, I will send you a link. This can either be a download link for the images or a selection link that allows you to make your selects, which are sent directly back to me.
Download links remain active for three days to help keep the project moving forward in a timely way.
Once final images are ready, I will provide you with a download of your finished files. I also keep a copy stored in my private cloud, which you can access later upon request.
The number of final images is arranged prior to the shoot. You will still have access to everything we capture, regardless of how many final images you choose.
What are common mistakes clients make before a shoot and how can I avoid them?
My focus is always to set you up for success, which is why I ask a lot of questions ahead of time. The biggest issue I see is not allowing enough time. Give yourself space to prepare and arrive early so you are not rushed. Feel free to ask questions at any point so nothing feels unclear.
What if I need to reschedule?
Life happens! I allow one reschedule with at least 48 hours' notice. Since I lock in dates specifically for you, deposits are generally non-refundable, but they can be applied to our new date.
Where can I see examples of your headshots or business imagery?
Send me a message and let me know what style you are looking for. I will share a link that matches what you have in mind.
